A self-described ‘cheapskate’ from Yorkshire has found a creative way to make extra cash by selling unusual items online, including everyday household products like toilet roll tubes.

Frugal Living and Unique Selling Strategies

Known on TikTok as @diaryofacheapskate, this savvy mother of two shares her passion for frugal living, hacks, and creative reuses on her platform. With her mortgage paid off, her lifestyle choices continue to help her save money while offering tips to others looking to do the same.

    Odd Items for Sale

In a recent video viewed by over 114,000 people, she showcased some of the bizarre household items she sells online to boost her savings. Among them are empty Gu dessert pots, gin bottles, and, interestingly enough, toilet roll tubes, which she believes are popular for crafts and gardening projects.

    Maximizing Value from Everyday Items

She explained her strategy for selling these items: ‘I save my empty toilet roll tubes and sell them. It seems people find them useful for various projects.’ She also collects pots from Gü cheesecakes when they go on sale, selling them as bundles for around 30 to 50p each, effectively enjoying the treats for free.

Collecting Rare Coins for Future Profits

In addition to everyday items, she also collects rare coins, particularly special 50p and £2 pieces. Many of these coins can sell for more than their face value, with some Kew Gardens 50ps being particularly valuable. ‘I used to sell them on eBay, but now I’m also utilizing Vinted,’ she stated.

Unusual Bottles and Their Market Impact

Another unique item on her selling list is empty alcohol bottles. Although she rarely drinks, she collects these aesthetically pleasing bottles for resale. She admits she is unsure why there is a market for them, but recognizes the demand exists.

Community Reactions and Tips for Selling

While many TikTok users praised her innovative money-saving methods, others questioned the market for used toilet roll tubes. Nonetheless, her followers shared additional tips such as selling empty perfume bottles, egg cartons, and even pine cones, enriching the conversation about what ordinary items can be profitably sold online.

Further Money-Saving Hacks for Everyday Life

This thrifty TikToker also advocates for using apps like Olio to obtain free food and shares tips like collecting rainwater to save on cleaning costs. Her approach to life showcases how simple changes can lead to significant savings, making her a relatable figure for anyone strapped for cash.
