Fundraising Event to Celebrate 40 Years of Impact

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Sept. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The American Cancer Society proudly announces the 2025 Relay For Life of Conejo Valley, taking place on Saturday, September 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at California Lutheran University Memorial Field in Thousand Oaks. This year’s event marks a significant milestone: the 40th anniversary of Relay For Life nationwide, aptly themed “40 Years of Impact.”

    Kick-off with a Fun Run

The festivities will commence with a non-competitive 5.0K fun run, promoting physical activity while raising awareness for cancer research. Following the fun run, participants will have the opportunity to walk with their teams, with each group ensuring a representative remains on the track throughout the full 12-hour relay event. Teams are also welcome to set up fundraising games and silent auctions to further support the American Cancer Society.

A Day Filled with Purpose and Community Support

More than just a walking event, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life unifies passionate supporters working towards the goal of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone affected. The event embodies a spirit of community, hope, and resilience.

Honoring Survivors and Remembering Loved Ones

Relay For Life is dedicated to celebrating cancer survivors, honoring those lost to the disease, and actively fighting back against cancer through fundraising efforts that support research and patient programs. The day’s events will kick off with the opening ceremony and survivor lap at 9:30 a.m., culminating in a luminaria ceremony at 7 p.m. to pay tribute to loved ones lost and those who are currently battling cancer.

    Activities for All Ages

Throughout the day, attendees can participate in a variety of activities suitable for all ages, including team-hosted fundraising games, live music from local bands, and food available for donation to the American Cancer Society. This inclusive atmosphere ensures that everyone can partake in the fight against cancer while enjoying a memorable day with family and friends.

Join Us for an Unforgettable Experience

“Join us for an unforgettable day for the entire family as we celebrate Relay For Life’s 40th anniversary at California Lutheran University,” says Abby Smith, Senior Development Manager at the American Cancer Society. “Whether you are a survivor, a caregiver, or simply someone looking to make a difference, this event is for you. Gather your loved ones, lace up your sneakers, and together let’s make a lasting impact.”

    How to Participate

Participation in Relay For Life is free, with a nominal fee for the 5K Fun Run. Interested participants can register online at www.RelayForLife.org/ConejoValleyCA. A donation of $28.05 is required for fun run participants, which includes a finisher’s medal and a pancake breakfast courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks.

    About Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life initiative offers more than just a walk; it’s an invitation to join a global community united in the fight against cancer. The movement originated from the vision of Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt, who, in May 1985, ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising funds for cancer research. His efforts sparked the creation of the Relay For Life, which has evolved into the premier fundraising event of the American Cancer Society.
