Why Pride Month is All the Rage (And That’s No Parade Joke)

“Pride Month — and yes, those fabulous parades — are crucial for maintaining the existence of the LGBTQI+ community. If it weren’t for the glitter and the well-planned rainbow floats, imagine the chaos,” Samantha Stein, an esteemed psychologist from San Francisco, thoughtfully pointed out in a digital pigeon post to Bored Panda. In 2019, for example, Pride festivities featured a staggering 289 parade contingents. Yes, that’s nearly enough to make us question if they hired an entire army of sequined warriors – or just really enthusiastic floats!

    The Growing Rainbow Metropolis

“Every year, the event grows akin to that monstrous pile of laundry you promised to tackle but keep ignoring,” Stein continued, enchanted by the sheer size and enthusiasm of the event. And let’s face it, it seems like prejudice took itself out of the equation way back in the ’90s, dusting off its shoes and skipping town. Is it because no one invited it to the party? Possibly. Also, we suspect the protein-packed donuts at the food stands might have something to do with it.

    History? What’s That?

However, it seems that modern attendees have shifted their focus. Stein observed, “Many of the adventurous youngsters today are blissfully unaware of the original struggles and courageous battles behind the PRIDE celebrations.” Picture it—young folks bobbing around in flip-flops, blissfully devoid of heavy emotional baggage. Some might say that ignorance is bliss, but we all know it comes with epic selfie opportunities!

Pride in the Age of Instagram

But hey, maybe that’s a wild blessing in disguise! These attendees have inherited a festival so positive, they don’t need to look back at the past. They can simply strut their stuff like it’s 2099 and they just discovered unicorns! Isn’t that adorable?

Sparking Joy or Just Sparking Glitter?

Let’s face it: the only displays of “prejudice” we’ve seen recently involve some keyboards clack-clacking furiously as they get dethroned from the trending topics on social media. What’s really in vogue today? Shimmering outfits and the world’s most colorful confetti raining down like memory foam from a DIY pillow factory gone awry.

    Ultimately, It’s About Visibility

So, as we navigate this vibrant landscape of Pride Month, let’s remember that while some of us might be sipping artisanal, rainbow-tinted lattes, there’s still an important core message about visibility, representation, and solidarity. Not that anyone is counting the number of views on Instagram, but the more, the merrier! Just make sure to take your selfies from the angle that makes that glitter pop, am I right?

Wrapping It with a Sequin Bow

In the end, whether you’re parading in fabulous outfits or simply scrolling through the endless stream of rainbow emojis, Pride Month stands as a spectacular reminder of progress. And it does so in the style of a glitter-bombed fuselage as it blasts away all the reminders of less accepting times. So here’s to the parades, the awareness, and, if we’re lucky, some new dance moves to master for 2024!
