Shenanigans Goes Big: A Patio Tale of Epic Proportions

Sept. 18, 2020 – In a plot twist that could only be scripted by a sitcom writer, Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill has decided to double the size of its patio and add a kitchen expansion. Because, you know, who wouldn’t want to drink overpriced beer while basking under the sun with enough room for a small solar system?

Don Rose, the mastermind behind the west-side watering hole, confessed, “When we built this outdoor paradise a few years ago, we really should have consulted an architect, or at least a guy with a yard stick.” Apparently, the pandemic has made outdoor seating the hottest tickets in town, much like a sold-out concert—only with fewer mosh pits and more nachos.

Sure, the COVID pandemic played its usual villain role, but Don optimistically whispered, “Hopefully that doesn’t last forever.” Because what could be more romantic than sitting outside indefinitely in a pandemic? Perfect for those who intend to have a long-term relationship with their patio furniture.

The expansion will elevate the seating from a cozy 30 to a lavish 60. Yes, you read that right—60! That’s enough room to host an impromptu Olympic-sized beer pong tournament. Rumor has it they’ll even be adding a pergola, because clearly, shade is the new black.

Construction has already begun on this glorious venture, promising a few outdoor TVs to distract patrons from reality, better lighting for those Instagram selfies, and a sound system perfectly calibrated to ensure not a single off-key note escapes during live music. Because who wouldn’t want to enjoy a slightly tipsy rendition of “Wonderwall” while the scent of barbecue wafts through the air?

As for the kitchen expansion, Don cheerfully stated, “We’ll be able to spread things out!” Yes! Finally! The staff will have enough space to avoid those awkward moments of culinary Tetris while trying to prep burgers and wings. What could be more thrilling than watching kitchen staff navigate their new realms like brave explorers charting unknown territories, all while cooking your favorite snack?

Shenanigans, now boldly entering its 35th year, moved from The Empire Mall in 2014 to a snazzy new digs at 26th Street and Ellis Road—a location that is rapidly filling up with houses and businesses. Don, ever the optimist, mused, “We’re very fortunate that we’re at where we’re at.” So true, especially when “where they’re at” is a place where the drinks flow freely and nachos are practically a food group.

If you’re wondering when to experience this extravaganza, don’t fret: Shenanigans opens at 11 a.m. daily and closes at the witching hour of midnight from Sunday through Thursday, and graciously extends its hospitality until 2 a.m. on weekends. Because when it comes to chicken wing-fueled late nights, nobody leaves until they’ve explored all the potential drumming skills of the bartender!
