Housefull 5 Trailer: A Comedic Mirage?
Today marks the grand unveiling of the Housefull 5 trailer, which, if the reactions are anything to go by, left us all wanting a little bit more—like better jokes. It’s as if the franchise decided to throw a star-studded party but forgot to invite humor. Baywatch may have had less slow-motion than this trailer, which meanders along at a pace resembling a tortoise taking a leisurely stroll in a three-legged race.
While some recycled gags may evoke a smirk—if you happen to enjoy digging through your trash for delight—the comedic essence feels more hollow than a piñata after a kid’s birthday party. You know it’s bad when the loudest laughs come from scenes that require an effervescent soundtrack to mask the awkward silence between punchlines. And what’s this about a murder mystery plot? It seems to have been ‘borrowed’ from Hollywood’s clearance bin, begging the question: Is originality just another word for restraint in this franchise?
As the trailer chirpily hints at a colossal budget of around 350 crores, one can’t help but wonder if the producers are lacing the popcorn with gold flakes, hunting for profit. Will the film’s overwhelming star cast make up for its perceived lack of comic gold? Or will it simply make people feel they’ve been overcharged for 90 minutes of awkward laughter and plot confusion?
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and featuring an ensemble cast that reads like an A-list bingo card, including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Jacqueline Fernandez, Housefull 5 is slated for release on June 5, 2025. Whether it will manage to tether audiences to their seats remains to be seen, but here’s hoping they remember to provide a comedy safety net.
