A well-known local matcha pop-up is launching its first store.

Vancouver’s matcha mania is showing no signs of going stale, much like that old loaf in the back of your fridge.

Mitchie Matcha, the beloved pop-up that has everyone buzzing, is officially moving into its first permanent location on Main Street. Yes, folks, it’s time to get your matcha fix in a place where it’s less likely to be consumed while standing awkwardly at a market stall.

Recently, we caught sight of some new signage indicating that this green tea temple will take over where the Tea Thyme Cafe once languished, perhaps whispering sweet nothings to each other through the walls.

This monumental leap is more than just a storefront for owner Michelle—this is the culmination of doodles on napkins and late-night caffeine-fueled brainstorming sessions. Starting as a “side hustle” in November 2024, she has now graduated to the PhD of pop-ups, and not the kind where you need a mortarboard.

Like many entrepreneurial tales, Mitchie Matcha emerged from the ashes of burnout, making it a phoenix of green goodness. Michelle candidly states that she leaped into the matcha game because she craved “something more motivating and meaningful” than corporate monotony—who knew that meant frothing green tea instead of spreadsheets?

And let’s talk about her philosophy on matcha—it’s refreshingly blunt. The brand’s motto? “If matcha tastes like grass, we are cows over here.” Who knew you could throw shade with a tea brand? Michelle insists if you’ve turned your nose up at matcha, you likely just had a poorly blended cup previously. Think of her as the matcha therapist—she’s here to heal your taste buds.

For the past year, her team (along with their dog, Yuzu, who undoubtedly has the best office hours in the city) has been gracing various markets around Vancouver. Just last week, Michelle began documenting her storefront saga on social media—everyone loves a good behind-the-scenes renovation story, especially when it involves peculiar paint choices and existential crises.

It wasn’t until recently that she unveiled the precise location, perhaps to ensure the suspense lingered just long enough to keep fans on edge. According to her latest updates, the grand opening is targeted for January… just in time to be the hottest spot to contemplate your life choices while sipping on your matcha latte.

This exciting venture isn’t the only new place in town; Mitchie Matcha joins the ranks of other fresh contenders like Ultramarinos Pepe and Raclette Steaks. So, grab your wallets and join the rush—Vancouver’s culinary scene is flourishing faster than you can say “ceremonial grade matcha.”

New location: 4355 Main St, Vancouver, BC. Go find your next green tea adventure on Instagram.
