Is Nivin Pauly’s horror comedy the return fans have been anticipating?

The Glorious Return of Nivin Pauly: A Malayali Dream Come True – Or Not?

    New Delhi:

Nivin Pauly, that beloved figure in Malayalam cinema, has resurfaced and, surprisingly, it wasn’t a prank. This long-awaited moment is akin to finding that long-lost 100-rupee note tucked between old books — a mix of joy and “why did I ever lose this?” Vineeth aptly noted that Nivin is, in fact, a critic-proof treasure for Malayalis. His return, marked by the horror-comedy hit Sarvam Maya, feels like discovering a hidden gem that hadn’t depreciated in value.

Initial buzz around the film suggests that Nivin and his band of filmmakers might have managed to charm a handful of social media enthusiasts into returning to their cinema seats. Yet, let’s not pop the champagne just yet; not everyone is applauding, and you can bet that the keyboard warriors are assembling their complaints as we speak.

What’s the Deal with Sarvam Maya?

At the heart of Sarvam Maya lies our protagonist: a young Hindu priest living a life that can only be described as a peaceful yoga retreat. But, plot twist! He bumps into a ghost — yes, an actual, spectral entity, not just an ex. Initially, he treats this ghostly encounter like an unexpected guest arriving two hours early to a dinner party. But soon, this interaction spirals into something much deeper, forcing him to confront existential questions typically reserved for your most annoying relatives during the festive season.

As the plot thickens, our priest begins to question everything he’s known — including whether he should have actually followed that dubious online course on ghost handling. His journey invites viewers to ponder where belief, fear, and cold, hard truths intersect. Spoiler alert: It’s not always as neat as he’d hoped, and he soon finds out that believing in ghosts doesn’t come with a user manual!

X Users Weigh In: A Mixed Bag of Reactions

On the trusty platform formerly known as Twitter, user @RandomFan123 posted: “#SarvamMaya – Neat One. An Average First Half Followed By a Good Second Half.” Was that a compliment or constructive criticism? The mystery continues! Apparently, this user found the first half slower than a sloth at a yoga class, but they conceded the second half was quite the thrill ride — much like finding a parking spot during festival season.

Another X post declared, “#SarvamMaya – A family entertainer rich in feel-good moments!” Ah yes, because nothing says “family fun” like a film that blends ghosts with comedy. According to this reviewer, the soundtrack was so appropriate it could probably win a Grammy, while the film itself marks a festive must-watch. “A sure winner,” they proclaimed, likely trusting the family dynamics illustrated—because we all know that family gatherings need a little ghostly humor to survive, right?

    The A-Team Behind Sarvam Maya

For the uninformed, Sarvam Maya is a brainchild of director Akhil Sathyan, son of the illustrious Sathyan Anthikad. Starring Nivin Pauly, alongside Aju Varghese, the film allegedly has a pocket-friendly budget of just Rs 5 crore. It makes you wonder: if they can pull this off with such a small budget, is it possible to host a three-course meal for under this amount?

As for its box office fate, one can only speculate. Will it soar like a balloon or fizzle out like last year’s Diwali crackers? Only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s keep our fingers crossed that Nivin Pauly’s charm doesn’t wear off as quickly as that freshly applied layer of paint on a cheap wall.

Also worth checking out is the new movie Mark, featuring Kichcha Sudeepa, which critics hint might be “his best action film.” But really, is that praise or are we just grateful for something else to watch while we await Nivin’s next venture?
