Based on the 2025 Mass Affluent Survey conducted by Forbes, 59% of affluent individuals with investable assets between $200,000 and $2 million view travel as a significant indicator of success. On average, they spend about $1,228 monthly on travel, their second-largest expense.

To delve into the favored winter vacation hotspots of these affluent travelers, GOBankingRates consulted luxury travel experts. Below are the prime winter holiday destinations that elite travelers prefer.

    Turks & Caicos

For those seeking sun and seclusion during the holiday season, Turks & Caicos is a premier choice. Willie Fernandez, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Rental Escapes, notes that exclusive private island rentals are highly sought after, providing guests full access to villas, staff, private beaches, and more. Holiday festivities include beachfront dinners and celebrations under the Caribbean sky, with luxurious stays ranging between $100,000 to $250,000 for a week.

    Paris, France

Paris remains an iconic holiday destination, especially for New Year’s celebrations at the Hôtel de Crillon. Richard Krieger, a travel expert from Sky Vacations, highlights tailored experiences such as private museum tours and exclusive shopping. Wealthy guests often splurge on luxury accommodations like the Suite Duc de Crillon, averaging $11,800 per night, alongside a private dinner cruise costing $8,800 for 10 guests.

    Lisbon, Portugal

During winter holidays, the elite often explore Lisbon’s festive charm, as Krieger detailed. Activities include attending the Lisbon Christmas Market or Wonderland Lisboa and indulging in exclusive wine tastings priced at $750 per guest. Accommodations at the Four Seasons’ Almada Negreiros Suite start at $21,000 per night, catering to affluent visitors.

    Athens, Greece

Greek destinations are becoming increasingly popular among the wealthy. Krieger points out Athens’ mild December climate and cultural vibrancy, drawing sophisticated travelers. Private, early-access visits to the Acropolis, available for $6,500 for five guests, are a standout experience here. Luxurious stays at the Royal Suite in the Hotel Grande Bretagne also appeal, at roughly $20,000 per night.

    Monaco & Monte Carlo

Monaco and Monte Carlo are sought after for their glitz and glamour. LaDell Carter, a travel designer at Royal Expression Travels, describes December in this glamorous region as a winter wonderland, complete with festive markets and twinkling lights. Wealthy travelers often arrive via a 7-minute helicopter ride from Nice Airport for about $2,000. Premium hotel accommodations at Hotel Métropole start around $8,500 per night, and holiday dining experiences are at renowned spots like Buddha Bar.

Throughout the winter holidays, affluent travelers seek unique experiences over cost. Carter noted that the focus is on creating specially curated journeys that reflect their individual preferences, transforming holiday travel into an unforgettable adventure.
