Hold onto your wigs; it’s that time again! Red Nose Day is back, promising an evening filled with more chuckles than you can shake a rubber chicken at. If you tune into Comic Relief: Funny for Money on March 20th at 7 PM, broadcast live from MediaCityUK in Salford, you might just find yourself questioning if you should donate your laughter as well as your cash.
Comic Relief: Funny for Money
This year’s spectacle will be a laugh riot featuring a lineup of blue-chip comedians, astonishing prizes, and surprise celebrity cameos. All proceeds go toward helping people attain food, shelter, and safety—essentials that shouldn’t require a go-fund-me in an ideal world—but here we are.
Davina McCall will grace us with her presence, straight out of a magical kingdom of television royalty, joined by comedic titans like Katherine Ryan, Nick Mohammed, Joel Dommett, and the incomparable Catherine Tate (known affectionately as Nan). Let’s hope they don’t take themselves too seriously, but seriously enough to pretend they’re not having the time of their lives.
Brace yourself for star-studded sketches, including ‘The Bank Job,’ where Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary put their comedic heads together to concoct a scheme so absurdly funny, you might forget about the actual crime rates outside your window. Other unmissable moments include sketches involving the likes of The Traitors and Amandaland—whatever that is, but it sounds delightful.
Comic Relief: Funny for Money will also aim to be more accessible than ever before—revolutionary, right? With Audio Description available on BBC One, and signing on the Red Button for those who need it, finally, those of us who find ourselves confused by English might feel somewhat included. You can also catch it on Freeview, Sky, and Virgin Media, because why should inconvenience be an option?
Special Programmes
Comic Relief Does The Weakest Link
As if that weren’t enough, at 10 PM, Romesh Ranganathan will host Comic Relief Does The Weakest Link on BBC Two. Spoiler alert: it will be painfully awkward, and comedians will compete not just for glory but also for the chance to shatter their dignity on live television. Who doesn’t want to watch multiple personalities blend into one awkward blob of laughter?
Comic Relief: More Funny For Money
On March 21, prepare for a highlight reel featuring unforgettable sketches and showcases from iconic artists like Adele and One Direction—all conveniently sandwiched alongside hidden gems featuring pop culture’s biggest names, including Alan Partridge breathing life into Kate Bush. Truly, just when you thought you’d seen it all.
Radio 1’s Longest Ride with Greg James
This March, Radio 1’s Greg James will embark on a 1,000km endurance cycle across the UK because, apparently, finding local gym memberships too mainstream wasn’t an option. He’ll be rolling through towns and causing traffic disruptions to raise much-needed funds, all while risking his cardiovascular health. Brought to you live, where the only thing pedaling faster than him will be your heart from sheer anxiety over his safety.
The Creator Band for Red Nose Day
And for those musically-inclined, four of the UK’s hottest digital creators will trade in their ring lights for stage lights, launching a band that promises to be the remedy for bad music. Rehearsing through giggles and uncoordinated dance moves will be their forte, all documented for your viewing horror on a Comic Relief YouTube series.
Donations
This Red Nose Day, contribute to a noble cause. Whether through donations or fundraising attempts that could either inspire awe or a facepalm, we encourage you to engage. More than just an exercise in frivolity, your contributions will aid those facing hunger, homelessness, or other cheesy reality show plot points.
So, what’s stopping you? Dive in and contribute your good vibes—because if an evening filled with laughter and a smattering of irreverence doesn’t draw out your generous spirit, we don’t know what will!
