Sony GOAT And Pixar Hoppers Box Office (Photo Credit – Facebook)

In a plot twist worthy of a Hollywood script, Pixar’s animated sci-fi comedy *Hoppers* recently led the domestic box office—until the formidable Ryan Gosling swooped in like a surprise twist in a mediocre thriller with his epic sci-fi adventure *Project Hail Mary*, reclaiming the No. 1 position post-March 20. Meanwhile, Sony’s animated sports comedy *GOAT* continues to hang in the top 10 like that one song you can’t escape, despite having premiered earlier on February 13. Critics rave for both films, but when it comes to cold, hard cash, *Hoppers* is currently flexing its muscles, raking in a hefty $120.2 million compared to *GOAT*’s $97.4 million.

Globally, *Hoppers* has amassed $242.4 million, securing its place as the second-highest-grossing title of 2026! Guess who’s in first? That’s right, the unassuming Chinese sports comedy *Pegasus 3* at $599.3 million—because apparently, audiences worldwide can’t resist the lure of horses that can also perform multiplications. In contrast, *GOAT* stands proudly as the fifth highest earner this year at a globetrotting total of $174.4 million. But enough about rankings; the burning question remains: which one of these cinematic masterpieces provides a better financial return for its budget?

GOAT vs. Hoppers – The Battle of Box Office Titans

Let’s dive into the riveting world of box office comparisons, where numbers tell all—even the ones you wish they wouldn’t.

    GOAT – Box Office Recap

    North America: $97.4 million
    International: $77 million
    Worldwide: $174.4 million

    Hoppers – Box Office Recap

    North America: $120.2 million
    International: $122.2 million
    Worldwide: $242.4 million

    Earnings-to-Budget Breakdown

*GOAT* was crafted on a budget of $80-90 million, yielding a return on investment ratio of approximately 1.94x-2.18x. Not too shabby for a film featuring anthropomorphic animals. In a surprising twist of irony, *Hoppers*—with its more luxurious $150 million price tag—boasts a return of only about 1.62x. Talk about a pricey hopping lesson!

    The Grand Analysis

Despite the glittering figures of *Hoppers*, *GOAT* has managed to churn out a higher earnings-to-budget ratio, even with its less-than-lavish earnings multipliers. Sure, *Hoppers* has the advantage of a longer theatrical run; however, it faces the daunting challenge of surpassing *GOAT* in return, largely due to its extravagant budget. If *Hoppers* were a contestant on a reality show, it would still be living in fear of being voted off the island in the next few weeks.

GOAT – The Real Plot Twist

Directed by Tyree Dillihay, *GOAT* unfolds in a world of anthropomorphic animals, centering on Will (voiced by Caleb McLaughlin), a young goat with aspirations of roaring in the tumultuous world of professional roarball. Can the underdog overcome the oversized competition? Spoiler alert: heart over size, but who knew it could take so much effort?

    Hoppers – Beyond the Plot

Overseeing the escapades is Daniel Chong with *Hoppers*, where Mabel—a passionate animal lover—embarks on a wild ride utilizing technology that transfers human consciousness into robotic animals. After swapping into a robotic beaver, she uncovers a dastardly plot threatening the forest. Clearly, nothing screams “save the planet” quite like a human pretending to be a beaver.

Stay tuned to *Koimoi* for more box office gossip hot off the cinema press, including how we’ll be comparing sprinkler budgets next!
