PDC Unveils Q School Tour Card Changes, Sparks Outrage Among Fans

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the darting universe, the PDC has just dropped a bombshell—like a poorly thrown dart—regarding the Q School Tour Card rules. The annals of sporting history are about to be rewritten, folks!

This dramatic announcement comes on the eve of the World Darts Championship final, where the impossibly young prodigy Luke Littler, all of 18 years old, prepares to defend his title against Gian van Veen. Spoiler alert: someone’s about to pocket a staggering £1 million—no pressure!

For our semi-final recap: Littler cruised through the semi-finals as if he were playing darts in his grandmother’s living room, annihilating Ryan Searle 6-1, while Van Veen dazzled his way past Gary Anderson with a 6-3 win. Both are now vying for a slice of the rich rewards that await!

Meanwhile, the PDC has also rolled out the red carpet for aspiring darting titans, announcing the dates for Q School—think of it as Darts 101 but with higher stakes and, apparently, more drama. The UK Qualifying School will grace Milton Keynes, and our European hopefuls will compete in Kalkar, Germany, from January 5 to 11. Buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride!

And now to the meat of the matter: the eyebrow-raising changes in the rules. At some point, someone must’ve thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be fun to stir the pot a bit?” According to section 5.2 of the PDC Ranking Rules, now two players will earn Tour Cards each day during the Final Stage of Q School instead of just one. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, now everyone gets a trophy—just what we need in a competitive sport!

Fans, naturally, are not thrilled. Feedback on social media has been nothing short of a roast session. One disgruntled fan stated, “Ridiculous idea. In what way will this improve the standard of the pro tour?” A second fan quipped, “What’s the point of playing a final then?” It seems reading comprehension took a holiday for some folks in the PDC office.

In addition to the “everybody gets a card” policy, the PDPA is throwing in a few extra changes for good measure: 16 qualifiers each day in the First Stage, and when you win the Final Stage, expect a swift replacement from the First Stage lists. They might as well add a participation ribbon while they’re at it!
