Free CPR Class: Because Your Heart Might Need a Break

In a stunning display of heroism, the Harmony Fire Department is offering a free CPR class on May 18. This life-saving showdown will take place at the esteemed venue known as the fire station (yes, that’s where they keep the fire trucks) located at 194 Putnam Pike from 6 to 9 p.m. For the low, low price of $10, you can snag a CPR card and perhaps a questionable sense of accomplishment. Payments in cash or Venmo are accepted, ensuring that you can save lives and still avoid writing checks like it’s 2005.

What Better Way to Celebrate than a Pasta Dinner?

And while you’re in the mood to save lives, why not also fatten up your stomach? The Harmony Fire Department & Improvement Association is hosting their 2nd annual pasta dinner fundraiser on Saturday, May 21. Also at the illustrious 194 Putnam Pike, from 5 to 9 p.m., you’ll be able to dine on carbs for just $10, while kids under ten can eat for free—because let’s be honest, kids don’t always come with great appetites anyway.

    No Voting for You!

In a twist reminiscent of a suspenseful political drama, the town clerk Jean Fecteau has boldly decided to delay the financial town referendum originally planned for May 24. The budget for fiscal year 2022/2023 is apparently too thrilling to be voted on right now. Fear not, for a new hearing date will soon be announced, allowing you to completely forget all your financial responsibilities for just a little longer.

Laugh it Off at the Comedy Fundraiser

For those seeking a different form of entertainment, mark your calendars for a comedy fundraiser! On May 21, doors at the Foster Country Club on 67 Johnston Road will fling open at 6:30 p.m. Just $25 puts you in the exclusive club of indoor laughter, cash bars, and raffles. It’s 18+, which means only the most refined, mature types of humor shall be tolerated. Or maybe just jokes that stretch the boundaries of taste.

May Breakfast: Possibly Better than Your Average Cereal

On the morning of May 21, rise and shine for a May Breakfast courtesy of Boy Scout Troop 44 Glocester. This culinary extravaganza runs from 7 to 10 a.m. at Chepachet Union Church. Tickets are only $8, and kids under five eat for free—because when they wake up at the crack of dawn, they deserve a pancake breakfast more than we do, right?

Take a Tour with the Glocester Heritage Society—Hint: No Elephants Involved

Speaking of magnificent experiences, the Glocester Heritage Society is treating you to Elephant Day Tours on May 21. Choose from three riveting time slots: 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 2 p.m. These tours begin at the Evans Schoolhouse, and yes, they do end somewhere worthwhile—at the Job Armstrong Store. Donations are welcome, and they promise to go toward enriching your understanding of local history, or maybe just buying more elephant-themed trinkets.

Town Meetings: A Satisfying Blend of Democracy and Boredom

Finally, if you’re excited about town meetings (and who wouldn’t be?), get ready for a jam-packed agenda! The West Glocester Fire District Executive Board meets on May 16 at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Glocester and Foster-Glocester School Committees will both convene on May 17. Bring your notepad and caffeine; you’ll need the energy to sit through more discussions on the thrilling world of educational policies. The Glocester Town Council will wrap things up on May 19 at 7:30 p.m., avoiding any form of excitement as they navigate the delightful complexities of local governance.
