Marcus Megastar: HeartThrob UK Tour 2025, Museum of Comedy

Ah, the Camden Fringe 2025! That glorious time of year when culture finally breaks free from its hermit’s lair. As we hurtle toward the end of our interview series, you might think juggling both the festival and interviewing performers is pure madness—and you’d be spot on! Nonetheless, with a few days of delightful overlap, we’re here to pique your interest before the chaos of the festival takes over completely (starting yesterday, July 28, until the 31st, if you’re keeping track).

Enter stage left, Marcus Megastar (Superstar Internationale!), a name that echoes through the halls of *anyone-in-the-know*—or at least the walls of the Museum of Comedy for two glamorous nights (August 22 and 23, tickets still available!). If you happen to find yourself in the same room as him, consider it a rare cosmic occurrence akin to catching a glimpse of Bigfoot riding a unicorn. How stunningly fortunate are we?

Now, what can one expect from this show? According to Miss Hope Springs, it’s “Like An O2 Concert On A Budget!”—cue the applause. DJ Wolfy chimes in with, “A Real Fantastic Mix Of Storytelling, Comedy, Impersonation & Musicality. Really made me smile!” Note to self: smile more at shows, less at bills.

As you gather your cheerleading pompoms, prepare for a voyage that includes a stretch limo entrance (naturally), a sparkling immersive one-man show, and, because why not, a cavalcade of characters, including Madam Cyn, Britain’s most notorious brothel keeper, and a fresh addition for 2025, Ronnie Kray—now available live from Broadmoor, a real mood-lifter for all!

Having successfully spread his comedic wings in 2023 at the Edinburgh PBH’s The Free Fringe, Marcus is back, and this time with “bigger songs, bigger jokes, bigger hair!” If your puns meter isn’t overflowing by now, we recommend recalibrating it before joining this party. Forget your ordinary Saturday night and strap in for a sensible dose of extravagant chaos!

Now, is this Camden Fringe debuting a brand-new experience? Not quite. Marcus reveals he previously lit up the stages of Wandsworth Fringe and even won an award—because who doesn’t love free accolades? Flashing back further, he had a fruitful run at Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe, cementing his place in the performance pantheon.

What inspired him to create such an awe-inspiring show, you ask? “To never just stand there and sing,” he proclaims, revealing his aversion to boredom. Nothing like invoking your inner Salvador Dalí while you slap on a musical number to keep things interesting! And speaking of interesting, he confirms that this year brought new jokes and another character into the mix. So, what fresh insanity will tickle your funny bone next?

However, in a world of minimalistic sets, how does he pull off the grandeur? With immersive screens and some clever costume tricks that would make a magician weep with envy, naturally. It’s practically Hogwarts-level wizardry, but for adults seeking laughs instead of Death Eaters.

When it comes to audience interaction, Marcus is bored. Just kidding! Expect surprises and playful banter because it seems he’s turned a standard evening into a delightful soirée of raucous repartee. And post-show? Marcus Megastar’s illustrious return home involves a private flight, and—let’s not spoil the fun—let’s just say Hollywood will be waiting for him, apple in tow.

If you had to assign a color to this vibrant spectacle, Marcus cheerfully insists it would be “Rainbow”—because who doesn’t love a bit of colorful inclusion? And if he had a dream stage anywhere in the world? Brace yourself for the Adelaide Fringe, where down under tantalizes like Vegemite (not that anyone truly enjoys that…)

Lastly, the pièce de résistance: a funeral wreath spelling out “SEX” as an homage to Madam Cyn’s own mysteries. Such artistry clearly betrays a lack of conventional norms we’ve all come to embrace. If he ever had his druthers for an ideal set piece? Think of Marcus naked in a cozy asylum—yes, that sounds perfectly reasonable, doesn’t it?

To anyone contemplating the Camden Fringe next year, take the advice of our utterly charming performer: “Dream it. Do it! Stick to the plan! Give up drinking, and you’ll find there’s precious little else to distract you from working like a madman!” What a sage revelation!

So, mark those calendars because Marcus Megastar’s HeartThrob UK Tour 2025 hits the Museum of Comedy on August 22 and 23, and the hilarity is sure to be as extravagant as the outfits!
