Runway Resilience: Shenanigans with Cancer and Couture

MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) — In a twist that could only be painted by the hand of fate—or perhaps a desperate fashion designer—“Shenanigans with Friends” took place on Friday to *support* women’s cancer research at UW Health. Because when you’re about to face the grave, nothing screams ‘living your best life’ quite like a catwalk.

This extravagant ordeal was hosted by the illustrious Friends of UW Health, effectively proving that serious matters can be swathed in satin and sequins. The evening was a fabulous spectacle of survivor stories, resilience, and the kind of life-saving research that requires both brains and a penchant for dramatic flair.

“The models are all cancer survivors. I’m a 15-year survivor myself,” declared Amy Frank, elegantly carrying the weight of both her cancer journey and a rather stunning ensemble. “I’m excited to help empower fellow survivors and thrivers on the runway tonight.” If only the runway healed as effectively as the healing power of a well-placed seam!

The event was festooned with live and silent auctions, because who wouldn’t want to bid on a dinner with a highly questionable celebrity? There were also chances to win prizes in a raffle—a sound investment, some might say, as one can never have too many water bottles shaped like motivational quotes. Volunteer “sidekicks” added a sprinkle of chaos and flair. Think of them as delightful distractions in an evening otherwise reserved for much-needed awareness.

Every penny raised from this fabulous fiesta will go to the Carbone Cancer Center. You could say that nothing quite combats the serious nature of cancer like sheer shopping—unless it’s a baked good with an adorably ironic name. Funds were raised, laughter was had, and if magic truly does exist, it can be found in a pair of killer heels.

WKOW’s Amber Noggle, a brave soul among the beautiful chaos, bravely attended the event, undoubtedly clutching her notes tightly as she balanced the need for fashion reporting with the overwhelming urge to bring home a cute centerpiece.

In summary, Shenanigans with Friends proved that when life gives you cancer, you can strut your stuff while raising funds and awareness in style. Who knew fighting such a serious illness could sparkle so brightly beneath the runway lights? Perhaps next year, we can look forward to “Discounted Trauma” where we acknowledge life’s shenanigans—all while donning the shiniest pearls our budgets can muster!
