The Bittersweet Farewell: A Comedy of Errors and Emotions

Well, folks, the day has finally arrived—no, not the day where your neighbor finally learns how to mow his lawn. It’s my last day at WRRV! Bittersweet doesn’t even begin to cover the plethora of emotions swirling in my gut like a bad burrito. Two years at WRRV feels equivalent to a lifetime spent in an awkward family gathering, but alas, I’m moving to Massachusetts for a new job. Exciting? Sure. Sad? Like leaving a beloved pet behind at the groomer.

I kicked things off at WRRV as part of the renowned Morning Grind. Yes, that meant rising at the ungodly hour of 4:30 a.m. Which, if you didn’t know, is a time that should only exist in horror films and coffee advertisements. Yet, waking up wasn’t entirely in vain—I had the pleasure of navigating through absurd antics with Nick, who’s basically the human equivalent of a caffeinated squirrel. Pizza and cake at 8 a.m. became my breakfast staples, because why not start the day in a calorie-induced haze? Can any of you compete with that? Didn’t think so.

Eventually, I clawed my way up to running WRRV. You could say it was like climbing Everest, but with way more caffeine and significantly fewer frostbite risks. Being the FIRST female to lead WRRV? What a badge of honor! If that doesn’t deserve a gold star or at least an awkward handshake, I don’t know what does! The delight of hosting my afternoon show was my own little slice of broadcasting heaven. Every weekday at 3 p.m. was a mini-event where I could pontificate about alternative music and my chaotic life—because everyone loves unsolicited advice during their commute.

Now, let’s discuss goodbyes. They are simply the graveyards of emotion, aren’t they? I mean, how many times can you say “It’s not you, it’s me” without it sounding like the end of a disastrous date? When you genuinely care about something—like my love for WRRV—it’s nearly impossible to escape the cheesiness. As I bid adieu to this chapter, I realize I’ll miss WRRV and the Hudson Valley more than I miss my ex’s cooking—and that’s saying a lot.

Forever etched in my grateful little heart is the joy of being part of your daily drill: the ride to and from work, probably while questioning your life choices. Thank you for letting me invade your spaces with chatter! I’m beyond thankful to have been part of the Hudson Valley community, where everyone knows everyone, and your business is basically neighborhood gossip. And let’s not forget, I managed to be a footnote in the history of WRRV. That deserves an Oscar—or at least a participation trophy.

As I prepare to ride off into the sunset—or realistically, to a state where the only thing I’ll understand is how to properly pronounce “Worcestershire”—let’s take a moment to laugh at some of my favorite WRRV moments. It’s like a blooper reel that no one asked for but everyone secretly loves.

The countdown begins as I reflect on my favorite mishaps and miracles.
