Thamma Box Office Earnings on Day 4: Maddock’s Horror Comedy Falters on Its First Friday, Raking in Less Than ₹4 Crore

Thamma’s Box Office: A Love Story with More Bites than Fights

Ah, the much-anticipated release of Thamma, the vampire love saga featuring the charming Ayushmann Khurrana and the radiant Rashmika Mandanna, which debuted on October 21. This cinematic gem went head-to-head with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat and managed to snag more screens than its competition—clearly, they were banking on the idea that more screens equal more screams. Spoiler alert: it turns out that’s not quite how it works.

    The First Friday Fizzles

On its inaugural Friday, Thamma raked in a disappointing ₹3.79 crore. To put that into perspective, the collection on Thursday was a less-than-stellar ₹13 crore. That’s right; we’re witnessing an over 70% drop—it’s like watching a stock market crash but without the thrill of a potential recovery. One might think Friday would set the tone for the weekend, but alas, it seems the buzz didn’t quite translate into footfalls. Guess people would prefer a cozy night in with a bowl of popcorn over an outing to see a vampire flick.

    Horror Comedy or Comedy Horror?

It appears Thamma isn’t the only underperformer lurking in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). Remember Bhediya? Its box office fate was as dreary as a rainy day in Mumbai. Sure, it released during the pandemic, which is like blaming a flat tire on a bad road—some things are just unavoidable. With Thamma, the decline in daily collections feels less like a steady leak and more like an open faucet—it’s just gushing down the drain.

Four Days in the Life of Thamma

In just four days, Thamma has wrangled together ₹59.39 crore in India. Not bad, you’d think, until you consider it was also released in Telugu, where it’s about as welcome as a mosquito at a picnic. In hindsight, perhaps adding another language wasn’t the grand idea it sounded like in the boardroom.

Budget Blues for the Budget Busters

Now, let’s put this all into the context of money. Thamma is proudly touted as the most expensive MHCU film—yes, it trumps even the superhit Stree 2 with a budget of ₹150 crore (including print and publicity, which, let’s be honest, should come with a ‘how not to overspend’ seminar). Given that it’s struggling to hit the ₹4 crore mark, watching the budget go down the drain is a spectacle worthy of a horror film itself.

Will Thamma’s Budget Recovery Be a Tall Tale?

As we watch the box office numbers continue to plummet, we can’t help but wonder: will Thamma ever recover its budget? Could it be more successful as a paperweight? At this point, it seems like an uphill battle worthy of any vampire narrative, if only the filmmakers could conjure up some better magic.

    A Fable for Future Filmmakers

In the end, while we can’t blame a film for its bad luck, Thamma serves as a cautionary tale for all future creators in the MHCU and beyond. Sometimes, despite the glitzy marketing and star-studded cast, it really is the content that counts. Or perhaps, just like a vampire in daylight, it’s best to remain hidden in the shadows of the script desk until the next blockbuster offers a lifeline.
