Tom Cruise Stars in Surreal Budget Spectacle: ‘Digger’

Tom Cruise is back, and this time he’s not just saving the world—he’s doing it with a wallet that would make Scrooge McDuck envious. His new film, Digger, is reportedly rolling out of the studio with a budget comfortably nestling in the nine-figure range, or as the financial gurus like to call it: a casual $125 million. Just what you need for a laugh, right?

The Plot Thickens—Like a Bad Gravy

In this upcoming black comedic gem from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Cruise plays a character whose most notable accomplishment appears to be transforming a minor disaster into a world-saving escapade. Because nothing screams “let’s make a film” like a plot about the most powerful man on Earth causing chaos while attempting to remember where he left his humanity. Spoiler: it’s probably in his other pants.

    High Expectations or High Budgets?

Industry insider Matthew Belloni mentioned, “A high-budget original Iñárritu comedy—$125 million, but I’m already suspicious.” He even compared it to next year’s One Battle After Another, which boasts an even steeper price tag. One can only wonder if the budget includes a lifetime supply of coffee for the creative team or just for keeping Cruise awake during all those elaborate stunts.

    Star-Studded—But at What Cost?

Joining Cruise in this cinematic adventure are luminaries like Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, and John Goodman. Perhaps they are all hoping to hit the jackpot as well, especially since One Battle After Another allegedly cost between $130 and $175 million. One can only imagine the catering bill on set for all those A-listers—who needs a plot when you have a well-fed cast?

    Throwback to the Iñárritu Era

This film marks Iñárritu’s grand re-entry into English-language filmmaking since The Revenant in 2015. It seems he’s been on a quest of his own—probably trying to master the art of making a movie within an Earthly budget. After all, who needs a balanced budget when you can explore the mysteries of human nature and catastrophic endeavors?

Hold On to Your Hats: It’s a Wild Ride

Speaking of Digger, Iñárritu, formerly known as ‘the director who made you think too hard’, remarked on his experience filming with Cruise: “It’s a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions.” Essentially, what he’s saying is, grab your popcorn and prepare for something that’s both hilariously tragic and tragically hilarious. And don’t forget your safety goggles; things could get messy.

The Moral of the Comedy? It’s Complicated

As Iñárritu himself so eloquently stated, “It was a very challenging film.” But let’s be honest: at this stage, who isn’t? Every film challenges him, just like every grocery store run challenges us when we try to stick to a budget. In the end, it sounds like Digger could be one wild ride—like that one time you thought a road trip was a good idea until you remembered you forgot the snacks. Buckle up!
